Homework- 17/12/13

Ladies,

In today's lesson we have been preparing to answer the question
Antony Horowitz describes Raven's Gate as a supernatural thriller.

To what extent do you agree with this description of the novel?

In tomorrow's lesson you are going to write a minimum of three PEE paragraphs to answer the question.
In our lesson this afternoon, you have been using the What's it all about? table to prepare. In the middle column, you should have the quotations you are going to use as evidence (one for a character, one for a setting/place and one for a moment/event in the novel). In the far right column- link to the supernatural thriller genre- you should have made notes for the explanation sections of your paragraphs.

Put together all the information you have in one of the rows of the table to make a PEE paragraph and comment on this post with it.

Don't be afraid to refer to our checklist of things to include, does your PEE paragraph have all these things:

¡  Direct quotations from Raven’s Gate used to support ideas or opinions.
¡  Word and sentence level analysis.
¡  Comment on the effect this piece of writing has on the reader.
¡  Use the P.E.E paragraph structure correctly, linking all the sections together smoothly.

Good luck,

Mr Brown

'She had hard ice cold eyes and cheek bones that formed two slashes across her face'. This says that she is cold blooded from her appearance. The author (can't remember the authours name) makes her sound old and crancky.

  2. 'Mrs Deverill had already warned him that there wasn't much to Lesser Malling and she was certainly right.' This shows that Lesser Malling is empty, old and it might feel like someone is watching you because when the author says 'there wasn't much to Lesser Malling' it makes Lesser Malling sound like no one lives there, only the odd stange person and its a BORINGGG village where there is no shops or no nature or no one has a life.

  3. "there were broken plates and glasses and in the middle of the kitchen table, a half empty of whisky lying on its side"
this shows that something has happen before Matt arrived and something else bad will happen or has already happened.

  4. She had ice cold eyes and cheek bones that formed two slashes across her face. she wore a silver necklace and on her jacket there was a silver brooch shaped like a lizard. This shows she is cold blooded and its unusual for a human being makes this
    supernatural thriller

  5. I think Tom Burgess's murder is linked to the supernatural thriller as ' Horowitz'
writes : Something - some sort of animal - had TORN into his face and neck. There were hideous red GASHES in his skin and his hair was MATTED with blood.
Torn into his face sounds like ripping apart, emptying and dismantling him. Doing this sounds like an animal is being killed for selfish reasons. Tom's hair was matted with blood meaning it was tangled up and knotted up, with blood tying it up all together. Gashes, deep cuts and wounds. This sounds like Tom has been attacked by a very sharp item, claws or very sharp nails have attacked him crudely.
    AHH so saddd !!!!! :(

  6. One of many of the effects Anthony uses '' Mrs Deverills clothes hovered in darkness'' this gives off a ghostly image because normally CLOTHES don't levitate and the thought of it is ghoulish ; he goes on to paint the picture of a DARKNESS this gives it a supernatural nature because this makes us think of a uncomfortable, pitch black and frightening scenery.

  7. I think that 'Ravens Gate' is a supernatural thriller as Anthony Horowitz writes "Asmodeous stared Matt in the eyes, then sank its teeth into its flesh'. This shows that Asmodeous is not a very nice cat as they sink there teeth into their flesh before eating. However Mrs Devrill explained to Matt that he has just ate.

Hope this is ok . Millie

  8. One effect that Anthony used, is that Mrs Deverills had ice cold cheek bones this might mean that she had been around for a very long time giving a chilling appearance. Also, my chosen setting is in Lesser Malling. Lesser Malling is a weird place which appears stranded with no life. Mrs Deverill fed Matthew snake blood which in my opinion points this story into a supernatural thriller.

  9. I think that 'Ravens Gate' is a supernatural thriller because the author writes: 'she had hard ice-cold eyes and cheek-bones that formed two slashes across her face'. I think this because it creates a image of a very scary person who has a evil look. The bit with 'ice-cold eyes' sounds like she is only able to look in one direction. The 'slashes across her face' bit sound like she has a pointy chin.

  10. I think that when it says ' the fingers were fat and stubby, the nails were encrusted with mud.'that he obviously eats to much and doesn't do any exercise as his fingers were fat. He doesn't wash very often (DISGUSTING) and works on a dirty place. This could relate to him being a villein.
